Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings to the global Kutchi community on the occasion of Ashadhi Bij, which marks the Kutchi New Year.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister shared a traditional Kutchi saying that reflects the community’s deep and enduring bond with its homeland.
He said, “Just as fish play joyfully across the vast ocean, wherever even a single Kutchi resides, there lives Kutch in every direction. Today is Ashadhi Bij, the Kutchi New Year. Heartfelt greetings and best wishes for the Kutchi New Year to all Kutchi brothers and sisters living across the country and around the world. Ram Ram, and many congratulations and warm wishes to everyone!”
The Prime Minister’s message highlighted the enduring cultural identity of the Kutchi community and acknowledged its widespread presence across India and around the world, where its members continue to preserve their traditions and heritage.
Ashadhi Bij is celebrated as the Kutchi New Year and holds special significance for the people of the Kutch region in Gujarat, as well as for the global Kutchi diaspora.
The festival coincides with the onset of the monsoon in the region and is traditionally regarded as an auspicious occasion, particularly for farming communities. It is marked by cultural celebrations, community gatherings and the exchange of New Year greetings.
