PM Modi mourns demise of veteran Gujarat leader Mohansinh Rathava

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed grief over the demise of veteran Gujarat leader and former state minister Mohansinh Rathava, who passed away at the age of 82.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Mohansinh Rathava, former Minister of the Government of Gujarat. I had the opportunity to work with him for years in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. His dedication and contributions to the all-round development of the tribal community, public service, and the welfare of the people will always be remembered.”

“I pray that God grants eternal peace to the departed soul and gives strength to his bereaved family members to bear this loss. Om Shanti,” he added.

Mohansinh Rathava was a veteran political leader who represented the Jetpur and Chhota Udaipur Assembly constituencies multiple times and was widely recognised for his work towards the welfare, development and rights of tribal communities in Gujarat.

His son, Rajendrasinh Rathava, the sitting BJP MLA from Chhota Udaipur, announced his father’s demise earlier in the day.

He said in a post on X, “With the passing of my revered father, former MLA Mohansinh Rathava Saheb, who made public service the guiding principle of his life, our family has suffered an irreparable loss. His lifelong dedication to social service, public welfare and human values will always continue to inspire us.”
