Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to late former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on his birth anniversary, remembering his contribution to Maharashtra’s development and public service.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said Pawar’s service to society and role in the state’s growth were “noteworthy”, adding that he was respected across sections of society.
“Remembering Shri Ajit Pawar Ji on his birth anniversary. His service to society and contribution to Maharashtra’s development were noteworthy. He was widely respected by all sections of society. The NDA government in the state is working tirelessly to realise his vision,” PM Modi said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also paid tribute to the late leader, describing his leadership as “visionary, inclusive and people-centric” and saying it had left a lasting impact on the state.
Fadnavis said no one could fill Pawar’s place but pledged to carry forward his vision of a “happy and prosperous Maharashtra”. He also recalled Pawar’s work ethic, administrative acumen and deep understanding of agriculture and the cooperative sector, saying that realising the late leader’s vision would be the “true tribute” to him.
Born on July 22, 1959, in Deolali Pravara in Ahilyanagar district, Ajit Pawar served six terms as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, making him the state’s longest-serving occupant of the post. He died in January 2026.
