Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired the second high-level meeting with Secretaries to the Government of India, reviewing the future action agenda of ministries and departments in the areas of finance and economy, commerce and industry, and technology with a focus on accelerating India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, focused on improving coordination among government departments, strengthening citizen-centric governance and addressing emerging challenges through innovation and technology.
During the meeting, PM Modi emphasised the need for stronger teamwork across ministries and departments, urging officers to work with a shared sense of purpose. He called for breaking both horizontal and vertical silos within the government to ensure better coordination and integrated outcomes.
Highlighting the importance of citizen-centric governance, the Prime Minister said that the people of India must remain at the centre of all government policies and decisions. He stressed that every initiative should be guided by the interests and aspirations of citizens.
PM Modi underlined that while India continues to make significant investments in infrastructure development, equal attention must be given to building indigenous technologies and domestic capabilities in critical sectors.
Stressing the importance of technological self-reliance, he said that developing homegrown capabilities would be essential for India’s future growth and strategic strength.
Discussing energy security, PM Modi said it is closely linked with national security, economic stability and citizens’ welfare. He called for achieving greater self-reliance in the energy sector through innovation, diversification and accelerated capacity creation.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that reforms should be viewed as a continuous process rather than a one-time exercise. He called for reforming government processes, improving work culture and strengthening institutional efficiency to deliver better outcomes.
On the growing importance of digital technologies, PM Modi stressed the need for stronger cybersecurity measures to protect digital systems and infrastructure from emerging threats. He encouraged greater participation of young innovators and entrepreneurs in the cybersecurity ecosystem, describing it as an area that should evolve into a nationwide movement.
The Prime Minister also called for proactive communication on strategic sectors where India is undertaking major initiatives. He emphasised the need to counter misinformation and unfounded concerns through effective outreach and awareness.
Highlighting the changing requirements of the workforce, PM Modi suggested that new academic courses should be developed in partnership with industry to equip young people with skills required for emerging and future industries.
He further stated that the government must always remain youthful, dynamic and forward-looking, continuously adapting to new challenges and opportunities with agility and innovation.
During the meeting, Secretaries shared their experiences and perspectives on key initiatives, emerging opportunities and implementation challenges across their respective domains.
The meeting was attended by the Cabinet Secretary, Secretaries of key ministries and departments, and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
