A weak low-pressure circulation over the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu in the lower levels of the atmosphere is expected to influence weather conditions across the state over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rainfall and gusty winds in several regions.
According to the IMD’s latest weather bulletin, isolated places across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds on Thursday and Friday under the influence of the weather system.
The department said districts along the Western Ghats are expected to witness moderate rainfall with gusty winds until July 28, while the rest of Tamil Nadu is likely to experience light to moderate rain during the same period.
Rainfall activity is expected to remain concentrated over the Western Ghats, where moisture-laden winds are likely to sustain intermittent showers over the coming days. Other parts of the state are also expected to receive scattered light to moderate rainfall, though with lower intensity.
For Chennai, the IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies, with moderate rain likely at a few places during the evening or night. Brief spells of rain accompanied by occasional gusty winds are also expected.
Despite the rainfall, maximum temperatures in the interior districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to remain up to 3 degrees Celsius above normal until July 26, the IMD said. Residents, particularly those engaged in outdoor activities, have been advised to take precautions against heat stress during the daytime.
Maximum temperatures across the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are expected to remain close to normal during the forecast period.
The IMD attributed the prevailing weather conditions to the combined influence of the weak low-pressure circulation and seasonal atmospheric patterns, which are expected to support intermittent rainfall across the state over the coming days.
The department has advised residents, particularly those in the Western Ghats districts, to stay updated with official weather advisories as isolated areas could experience brief spells of heavy rain and gusty winds.
