The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has directed all recognised National Sports Federations (NSFs) for Olympic sports to publish the qualification pathway, selection criteria and process for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games on their official websites by July 15.
In a communication issued on Thursday, the Ministry reiterated that selection policies for major multi-sport events, including the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian Games, Para Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, must be made public at least two years before the commencement of the respective Games.
The Ministry said the selection policy and criteria should also be shared with the member units of the concerned NSFs and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to ensure greater transparency in the athlete selection process.
The Los Angeles Olympics are scheduled to be held from July 14 to July 30, 2028.
According to the Ministry, the qualification pathways for the Games have already been released by the respective International Federations. Based on these guidelines, all recognised NSFs have been asked to immediately publish the Olympic qualification pathway, athlete selection criteria and selection process on their official websites, with July 15, 2026, set as the deadline.
The federations have also been instructed to disseminate the selection pathway among all affiliated state and Union Territory associations.
The Ministry said the initiative is aimed at promoting greater transparency and accountability by placing the qualification pathway, selection criteria and selection procedure in the public domain well in advance, ensuring that athletes and all stakeholders have clear information regarding the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
