UIDAI enables free Aadhaar email updates via Aadhaar app; over 2.5 lakh users avail service in two days

In a significant step towards improving citizen convenience and strengthening digital governance, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has enabled residents to add or update their email ID in Aadhaar directly through the Aadhaar app, eliminating the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment or update centre.

The new facility, which came into effect on July 1, is being offered free of cost for six months through the Aadhaar app. The initiative is aimed at making Aadhaar services more accessible while supporting the Government’s Digital India vision and the goal of building a Viksit Bharat.

The response to the new service has been encouraging, with more than 2.5 lakh residents updating their email addresses within the first two days of its launch.

According to UIDAI, linking an email ID with Aadhaar enables users to receive real-time email notifications whenever an Aadhaar authentication request is executed, providing greater transparency and an additional layer of security by keeping Aadhaar holders informed about the use of their identity.

The email update feature is the latest addition to the services available on the new Aadhaar App, which has been designed to improve ease of living by allowing residents to access key Aadhaar services directly from their smartphones without requiring physical visits to Aadhaar centres.

The app already offers services such as mobile number updates and address updates. UIDAI said that over 40 lakh people have updated their mobile numbers using the Aadhaar App so far, while around 10 lakh residents have used it to update their addresses.

Encouraging more residents to take advantage of the new facility, UIDAI urged Aadhaar holders to download or update the Aadhaar app and use the email update feature to enhance the security of their Aadhaar-linked services.

The Aadhaar App is available for download on both Android and Apple iOS platforms.
