Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called for a productive and constructive Monsoon Session of Parliament, urging Members of Parliament to engage in meaningful, fact-based discussions that contribute to the nation’s progress.
Addressing the media before the commencement of the session, the Prime Minister expressed hope that the Monsoon Session, much like the ongoing monsoon, would prove beneficial for the country.
“Be it the monsoon or the Monsoon Session, when both are proactive, they become highly productive. And when both are productive, they contribute to the well-being of the nation and of all living beings,” he said.
Highlighting India’s recent achievements, the Prime Minister said the country had witnessed several milestones over the past month in sectors ranging from space and technology to infrastructure and clean energy.
Referring to India’s growing space capabilities, PM Modi lauded a young Indian start-up for its recent achievement, noting that only a few countries possess private enterprises capable of such technological advancements. He said the accomplishment reflected the limitless aspirations and capabilities of India’s youth.
“The capabilities and aspirations of India’s youth are as limitless as space itself. There can be no greater inspiration for the nation than this,” the Prime Minister said.
He also credited the government’s reform-driven approach for creating an ecosystem that enables innovation and entrepreneurship.
“The country has boarded the reform express, which has empowered our youth to take bold steps and succeed,” he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted several recent infrastructure and technology initiatives, including the dedication of a major oil refinery in Rajasthan, the inauguration of the country’s third semiconductor plant, and the launch of India’s green hydrogen-powered train.
He noted that the hydrogen train dedicated to the nation is the world’s longest and the most powerful engine-driven hydrogen train, describing it as a testament to the dedication of India’s scientists, engineers, innovators, entrepreneurs and workers.
Turning to the global situation, PM Modi said conflicts in West Asia had created significant challenges for energy-dependent countries like India, affecting the supply of petroleum products, LPG, fertilisers and chemicals.
Despite these disruptions, he said India maintained strong economic momentum.
“India continued to grow at 7.7 per cent, becoming the fastest-growing major economy in the world. This reflects India’s strength and its determination to scale new heights with enthusiasm and energy,” he said.
Calling upon parliamentarians across party lines to contribute positively during the session, the Prime Minister said Parliament must function effectively to meet the aspirations of the people, particularly the youth.
He stressed that experienced lawmakers have an important role in guiding the nation through informed deliberations.
“Parliament must function, meaningful discussions must take place, and collective resolutions must be made to move the country forward. This is the demand of the times and the aspiration of the youth,” he said.
Emphasising the importance of reasoned debate, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that discussions based on evidence and sound arguments would strengthen parliamentary democracy.
“Where facts and logic prevail, there is no room for disruption. Strong arguments and strong facts allow voices to be raised calmly yet powerfully,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister also appealed to all Members of Parliament to participate actively in the proceedings, expressing hope that every voice would be heard and every idea would receive due respect during the session.
