The 14th meeting of the India-Nepal Joint Working Group (JWG) on border management and security was held in Dehradun on August 20-21, 2026, with the two sides reviewing the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation and reaffirming their commitment to strengthening coordination.
The Indian delegation was led by Pausumi Basu, Joint Secretary (BM-I), Ministry of Home Affairs, while the Nepali delegation was headed by Ananda Kafle, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of Nepal.
The discussions focused on addressing trans-border crime and other criminal activities, strengthening border infrastructure and improving the effective utilisation of Integrated Check Posts (ICPs), roads and railway networks.
The two sides also discussed the removal of encroachments and the maintenance of boundary pillars, along with measures to strengthen institutional coordination and capacity building across various sectors.
Both countries agreed to sustain engagement and cooperation on issues related to border management and security.
It was also decided that the next meeting of the India-Nepal Joint Working Group would be held in Nepal on a mutually convenient date.
