165 dead, over 800 missing after flash floods in Nepal, authorities say

Nepal on Thursday said that more than 800 people, including nearly 580 tourists, were missing in the massive flash floods that swept through the country, leaving 165 dead.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) in a statement said that 826 people have been out of contact since the devastating flood swept through parts of the Nepal-Tibet border on Wednesday.

According to the NDRRMA data, those missing include 85 armed forces personnel, 162 staff members working at various hydropower and customs offices and 579 tourists.

The flash floods on Wednesday wreaked havoc across three districts in the Himalayan nation.

Meanwhile, three people were killed, and as many as 588 are reportedly missing in China’s Tibet autonomous region, state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday.
