Afghanistan will host India for a three-match T20I series at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi from September 13 to 17, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Wednesday.
The first T20I will be played on September 13, followed by the second match on September 15 and the third on September 17. All three matches will be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The series is part of Afghanistan’s Future Tours Programme and will be played in India, where Afghanistan has hosted its home fixtures in recent years.
BCCI President Mithun Manhas said the board remains committed to supporting the growth of cricket in Afghanistan and providing its players with opportunities to compete against quality opposition.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said India-Afghanistan cricketing ties have grown through regular bilateral engagements across formats. He noted that India hosted Afghanistan for its historic first Test in 2018 and that the two teams have continued to play each other regularly.
Saikia also said the upcoming T20I series will complete the teams’ recent bilateral engagements across all three formats, following a Test and ODI series in June.
Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Rohan Jaitley said the Arun Jaitley Stadium was ready to welcome both teams and provide fans in Delhi an opportunity to witness international cricket.
Afghanistan Cricket Board Chairman Mirwais Ashraf said the series was significant for Afghanistan cricket and would further strengthen its relationship with the BCCI. He said playing the bilateral series in India would provide opportunities in commercial, technical and cricketing areas.
The two teams most recently played a three-match ODI series in June. They also faced each other in a three-match T20I series in January 2024.
The upcoming series will begin on September 13, with the remaining matches scheduled for September 15 and 17 in Delhi.
