CWG 2026: Lovlina Leads India’s 10 Boxing Finalists; Gulveer Singh Eyes Second Medal on August 1

India will have multiple medal opportunities at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Saturday, August 1, with boxing taking centre stage as a record 10 Indian pugilists, led by Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain, compete in their respective finals.

All 10 Indian boxers secured victories in the semi-finals, guaranteeing at least silver medals and marking India’s best-ever boxing performance at the Commonwealth Games. They will now aim to convert their silver medals into gold at the SEC Centre.

The Indian finalists are Lovlina Borgohain (women’s 75kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (women’s 51kg), Preeti Pawar (women’s 54kg), Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 57kg), Priya Ghanghas (women’s 60kg), Arundhati Choudhary (women’s 70kg), Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (men’s 55kg), Sachin Siwach (men’s 60kg), Ankush Panghal (men’s 80kg) and Narender Berwal (men’s +90kg).

In athletics, Gulveer Singh will return to the track for the men’s 5,000m final after winning silver in the 10,000m earlier in the Games. Triple jumpers Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran will look to replicate India’s historic one-two finish achieved by Eldhose Paul and Abdulla Aboobacker at Birmingham 2022.

National record holder Dev Meena and Kuldeep Kumar will compete in the men’s pole vault final, while the Indian mixed 4x400m relay team will also challenge for a podium finish. Olympian Priyanka Goswami will aim to improve on the race walk silver medal she won at Birmingham 2022 by securing gold in the women’s 10,000m race walk.

India’s judokas will also be in action after a historic opening day that saw Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh win the country’s first-ever Commonwealth Games judo gold medals. Unnati Sharma (women’s 63kg), Karanjit Singh Maan (men’s 90kg), Harsh Tokas (men’s 81kg) and Inunganbi Takhellambam (women’s 70kg) will begin their campaigns.

In lawn bowls, the men’s pairs team of Navneet Singh and Dinesh Kumar will face England in a must-win sectional match, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals. India will also compete for medals in para athletics and track cycling.
