Defence Ministry signs Rs 1,577 crore contracts with TATA Advanced Systems, NIBE for loiter munition systems

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Friday signed contracts worth approximately Rs 1,577 crore with TATA Advanced Systems Limited and NIBE Private Limited for the procurement of Loiter Munition Systems, along with munitions and other accessories, for the Indian Army.

The contracts were signed in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

The procurement is aimed at strengthening the operational capabilities of the Indian Army, particularly its Artillery Regiments. Loiter Munition Systems are designed to enhance the ability of artillery units to identify and engage targets, thereby improving overall battlefield effectiveness.

The systems are being procured under the Buy (Indian) category through the Fast Track Procedure, with the acquisition expected to provide a boost to domestic defence manufacturing capabilities.

The Ministry said the contracts mark an important step towards modernising the armed forces while strengthening the indigenous defence industry.

The procurement is also expected to contribute to the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative by expanding the role of Indian defence manufacturers in meeting the country’s military requirements.
