The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm on Monday amid loud protests by Opposition members demanding a response from the government over police action against NEET protesters and the controversy surrounding the alleged theft of donations collected for the Ram temple.
The Opposition also staged a protest at Makar Dwar as the first day of the last week of the Monsoon Session began amid disruptions. The Rajya Sabha was also adjourned till 2 pm amid repeated protests.
Despite the din, the Lok Sabha took up and introduced all four Bills listed for the day.
When the House reassembled at noon after the first adjournment, Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026, amid Opposition protests.
The Bill seeks to improve the efficiency, independence, transparency and uniformity in the functioning of various tribunals. It also proposes uniform qualifications, appointments and service conditions for chairpersons and members of tribunals, besides providing for the establishment of a National Tribunals Commission.
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy then introduced the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, which seeks to further amend the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai introduced the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026, which seeks to change the name of the state from Kerala to ‘Keralam’.
Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol introduced the National Cooperative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which seeks to further amend the National Cooperative Development Corporation Act, 1962.
Monday was the 16th sitting day of the Monsoon Session. The House could not complete Question Hour amid continued sloganeering and protests by Opposition members.
The proceedings of the Lower House have been repeatedly disrupted during the ongoing session, with six of the eight Bills passed by the House so far being cleared without debate.
In the Rajya Sabha, Union Power Minister Manohar Lal informed the House that the draft National Electricity Policy, 2026, was at the finalisation stage following consultations with stakeholders.
Replying to supplementary questions, Lal said the policy had been framed to strengthen the smart power distribution system, with due focus on demand- and supply-side management to ensure regular electricity supply.
Amid continued protests, the Rajya Sabha Chairman also adjourned the House till 2 pm.
