Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday expressed deep anguish over the stampede at Ashok Dham in Bihar’s Lakhisarai, extending his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.
He said the local administration was making every possible effort to ensure proper treatment for those affected.
“The incident that occurred with devotees at Ashok Dham in Lakhisarai, Bihar, is extremely tragic. I express my condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives in this accident. The local administration is providing all possible treatment to the injured. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri @AmitShah,” said a post by the Office of the Home Minister of India on X.
The stampede occurred at Ashok Dham Temple in Lakhisarai on Monday morning as thousands of devotees gathered to offer prayers and perform Jalabhishek to Lord Shiva on the third Monday of the holy Sawan month. At least seven devotees have been confirmed dead, while more than a dozen others were injured and shifted to hospitals for treatment.
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has announced an ex gratia assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed in the incident.
“In this hour of grief, the state government stands with the bereaved families with full empathy and commitment,” Choudhary said in a post on X.
