Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was shifted back to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Friday after undergoing a brief medical evaluation at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, local media reported, citing Dawn.
The transfer was carried out under tight security in compliance with directives issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan earlier this week.
The incarcerated founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was transported via Pitras Bukhari Road and entered the hospital complex through Gate No. 1.
Ahead of his arrival, law enforcement agencies established a high-security perimeter around the medical facility. Pitras Bukhari Road and Service Road South were sealed off to civilian traffic on Thursday night, while more than 800 personnel from the Islamabad Capital Territory Police, city administration and Rangers were deployed to secure the area.
According to Dawn, the scale of the security arrangements was comparable to those witnessed during the Panamagate proceedings against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Federal Judicial Academy.
Joint teams comprising capital police and jail officials coordinated the transfer arrangements to ensure security during Khan’s brief stay at the hospital.
The Supreme Court had directed the federal government to move Khan to a private medical facility within two days for a comprehensive health assessment.
Khan, who has been incarcerated since 2023, is serving a 14-year sentence in connection with the Toshakhana case. He was taken to the hospital following concerns over fluctuating blood pressure and related symptoms noted in recent prison medical reports.
After undergoing the scheduled check-ups and preliminary clinical tests under the court-mandated medical assessment, Khan was moved directly back to Adiala Jail before daybreak.
