India delivers medical supplies to Kabul hospital, reaffirms humanitarian support

India on Thursday delivered medicines and medical consumables to a government hospital in Kabul, reaffirming its continued humanitarian assistance and health partnership with the people of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a post on X that the consignment was aimed at augmenting healthcare in Afghanistan.

“Reaffirming its enduring health partnership with the friendly people of Afghanistan, India delivers medicines and medical consumables to a Government Hospital in Kabul,” the MEA said.

The latest assistance comes amid India’s sustained efforts to provide humanitarian support to Afghanistan through supplies of essential medicines, relief materials and other aid.

Earlier this week, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India’s engagement with Afghanistan had gained momentum over the past year, with a focus on diplomatic exchanges, humanitarian assistance and development cooperation.

“India shares a long-standing relationship with the Afghan people. Our engagement with Afghanistan has gained momentum over the past year, including through diplomatic exchanges, humanitarian assistance that we have offered, as well as our development cooperation programmes,” Jaiswal said at a media briefing in New Delhi.

He said India’s engagement with Afghanistan would continue to be guided by these priorities.

Last month, India delivered relief materials, including food items and family tents, to Afghanistan’s National Disaster Management Authority to support communities affected by devastating floods in Nuristan.

In June, India delivered another five tonnes of essential medicines to Kabul as part of its humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

Earlier, on May 22, India supplied 20 tonnes of critical dry materials for Bacillus Calmette–Guerin (BCG) and Tetanus & Diphtheria (Td) vaccines to Kabul to support Afghanistan’s child immunisation programme.

The MEA said additional consignments were also underway, reiterating India’s commitment to supporting the Afghan people in the health sector.
