India’s coal production registered a 7.51 per cent year-on-year growth in July 2026, while coal dispatch recorded a robust 17.34 per cent increase, reflecting sustained growth in the country’s coal sector.
According to provisional data released by the Coal Ministry, the country’s coal production reached 69.75 million tonnes (MT) in July 2026, up from 64.88 MT in the corresponding month last year.
Coal dispatch also witnessed strong growth during the month, rising to 86.33 MT from 73.57 MT in July 2025, registering a year-on-year increase of 17.34 per cent.
The Ministry said the growth in coal production and dispatch reflects its continued efforts to ensure a consistent coal supply and maintain operational stability across the sector.
During the current financial year, cumulative coal production up to July stood at 302.24 MT (provisional), while cumulative coal dispatch reached 354.70 MT (provisional), recording a 5.87 per cent growth over the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
State-owned Coal India Limited (CIL) contributed 50.35 MT to the country’s coal production in July, registering an 8.42 per cent increase over the same month last year.
CIL also dispatched 63.67 MT of coal during July 2026, marking a 17.43 per cent year-on-year growth. Its cumulative coal dispatch during the current financial year up to July also recorded a 6.81 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
The Ministry said it remains committed to achieving sustainable growth in the sector, improving coal availability and reducing dependence on imports, adding that the continued growth momentum reinforces the coal sector’s role in supporting India’s economic development.
