The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 PM on Wednesday following continued disruptions by Opposition members.
The adjournment came amid persistent demands by Opposition parties for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address the House on issues they have raised.
Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the Opposition was prepared for a discussion if the Prime Minister and the Home Minister made statements in Parliament.
“Our demand is that Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah come to the House and make statements. We are ready for a discussion, and a solution can emerge through debate,” Kharge said.
The Monsoon Session has been repeatedly disrupted since it began on July 20, as the Opposition has pressed for discussions on several issues, including the alleged police action against student protesters at Jantar Mantar and the alleged embezzlement of donations made to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, while also demanding statements from the government. The session is scheduled to conclude on August 13.
