Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday released the autobiography of former President Ram Nath Kovind, titled “Triumph of the Indian Republic: My Life, My Struggles,” at an event held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who was present at the book launch, described Kovind’s life journey from a humble and economically disadvantaged background to the highest constitutional office as an extraordinary story of struggle, determination and achievement.
LS Speaker Birla said Kovind’s early struggles, including the difficulties he faced in pursuing his education, reflected his exceptional resolve and made his life an enduring source of inspiration for generations.
Highlighting Kovind’s public career, the Lok Sabha Speaker said his commitment to constitutional values was evident during his years as an advocate and later as a Member of Parliament. His tenure in Parliament, he noted, was marked by a focus on the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, social justice and probity in public life.
LS Speaker Birla also recalled Kovind’s tenure as Governor, saying he contributed to improving transparency, quality and technological innovation in higher education.
As President of India, Kovind upheld the constitutional traditions of the country and remained committed to social harmony and inclusive development, LS Speaker Birla said. His visits to several countries also contributed to strengthening India’s diplomatic relations, he added.
The Lok Sabha Speaker particularly highlighted Kovind’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic, saying he helped instil courage, unity and confidence among citizens during the challenging period. LS Speaker Birla also credited him with making Rashtrapati Bhavan more accessible to the public.
LS Speaker Birla said Kovind has continued to contribute to the nation and society even after completing his tenure as President, drawing on his experience and reflections on public life while remaining committed to constitutional values and social justice.
LS Speaker Birla expressed confidence that Triumph of the “Indian Republic: My Life, My Struggles” would offer readers significant insights into Kovind’s life and inspire them to make a meaningful contribution to public life.
He also extended his congratulations and best wishes to the former President on the publication of his autobiography.
