The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is leveraging its PAIMANA platform to keep a close watch on India’s massive infrastructure pipeline, monitoring 1,775 ongoing Central Sector projects with a revised cost of ₹37.11 lakh crore as of July 2026.
The PAIMANA platform enables Ministries and Departments to track project implementation, conduct timely reviews and support data-driven decision-making, strengthening monitoring of major Central Sector infrastructure projects.
Spread across 17 Central Ministries and Departments, these projects have recorded a cumulative expenditure of ₹19.26 lakh crore, accounting for nearly 51.91 per cent of their revised project cost, reflecting steady progress in implementation, stated a press release from the MoSPI.
A substantial number of projects have reached advanced stages of execution. As many as 675 projects, or around 38 per cent of the total, have achieved more than 80 per cent physical progress, while 305 projects, or nearly 17 per cent, have crossed the 80 per cent mark in financial completion.
The Transport and Logistics sector has emerged as the largest component of the infrastructure pipeline. According to the Department of Economic Affairs’ Harmonized Master List, the sector accounts for 1,246 ongoing projects with revised estimates of ₹19.81 lakh crore, highlighting the government’s continued focus on connectivity-driven infrastructure development, it stated.
The 1,775 ongoing infrastructure projects include 735 mega projects, each with an original cost of ₹1,000 crore or more, together valued at ₹28.77 lakh crore. The remaining 1,040 major projects, with costs ranging from ₹150 crore to below ₹1,000 crore, account for ₹4.93 lakh crore.
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways accounts for the largest share of projects under MoSPI’s monitoring framework, with 993 projects, or 56 per cent of the total, involving a revised project cost of ₹9.62 lakh crore. This highlights its central role in driving India’s infrastructure development.
The Ministry of Railways is implementing 190 projects, accounting for 11 per cent of the total, with a revised cost of ₹6.38 lakh crore. The Ministry of Coal follows with 121 projects, or 7 per cent, with a total revised cost of ₹2.22 lakh crore.
Other major contributors include the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, with 103 projects worth ₹4.23 lakh crore; the Ministry of Power, with 98 projects worth ₹6.08 lakh crore; the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, with 50 projects worth ₹3.78 lakh crore; and the Department of Water Resources, River Development & GR, with 38 projects involving a revised cost of ₹2.01 lakh crore.
The remaining 182 projects, accounting for 10 per cent of the total and carrying a revised cost of ₹2.78 lakh crore, are spread across several Ministries and Departments, including Higher Education, Civil Aviation, Steel, Telecommunications, Labour & Employment, Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Health & Family Welfare, Mines, DPIIT and Sports.
