Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday reviewed the rainfall situation in the Rewa, Shahdol and Jabalpur divisions and assured that the state government would provide full compensation to people who suffered losses due to the recent spell of heavy rain.
Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister praised the administration for its prompt response and effective management of the situation.
“I came here today to review the situation caused by the rains in our Rewa, Shahdol and Jabalpur divisions. The information I have received indicates that during this period of heavy rain, our administration worked with great promptness, and relief camps were successfully operated in many places,” Yadav said.
He said the situation had largely returned to normal as rainfall had subsided over the past 48 hours, with many people leaving relief camps and returning to their homes.
“However, for those whose houses have collapsed, or who have suffered loss of life, loss of livestock, or any other damage, the compensation fixed by the government will be provided by us with full compassion,” the Chief Minister said.
Yadav also urged officials and residents to remain vigilant in view of the weather forecast for the coming days.
“For the upcoming cycle from August 24 to 27, we have given instructions for precautions in those districts where heavy rain is likely. We hope that this entire part of eastern Madhya Pradesh emerges safely from these challenges,” he said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted a 20 per cent rainfall deficit across the state and called for a change in agricultural planning in view of prevailing weather conditions.
“On average, it is believed that our rainfall was 20 per cent less across Madhya Pradesh. Therefore, for the post-rain crop cycle, I have asked the Agriculture Department to manage and encourage the planting of crops that require less water,” Yadav said.
He urged farmers to take prevailing weather patterns into account while planning the current and subsequent crop cycles.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Gohparu in Shahdol district of East Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest rainfall of 8 cm in the 24 hours ending Sunday.
The weather department forecast isolated to scattered rainfall over West Madhya Pradesh on August 23 and again from August 27 to 29.
Similar weather conditions are likely over East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on August 29, the IMD said.
