PM Modi announces ₹2 lakh ex-gratia for kin of those killed in Lakhisarai incident, ₹50,000 for injured

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each person who died in the stampede in Bihar’s Lakhisarai, while those injured will receive ₹50,000 each.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister’s Office shared: “PM @narendramodi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF to be given to the next of kin of each deceased in the unfortunate incident in Lakhisarai, Bihar. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”

The stampede occurred at Ashok Dham Temple in Lakhisarai on Monday morning as thousands of devotees gathered to offer prayers and perform Jalabhishek to Lord Shiva on the third Monday of the holy Sawan month. At least seven devotees have been confirmed dead, while more than a dozen others were injured and shifted to hospitals for treatment.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in the stampede and extended his condolences to the bereaved families. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured and said that the local administration was actively assisting those affected.

In a post on PMO India on X, the Prime Minister wrote: “Pained by the loss of lives due to a stampede in Lakhisarai, Bihar. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. May the injured recover at the earliest. The local administration is assisting those affected.”

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has also announced an ex gratia assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed in the incident.

“In this hour of grief, the state government stands with the bereaved families with full empathy and commitment,” Choudhary said in a post on X.
