Delhi-NCR woke up to moderate rainfall on Thursday morning, bringing much-needed relief from humid weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another spell of widespread monsoon rainfall across large parts of the country, with heavy to very heavy showers likely over several regions in north, east, west and south India.
The IMD said multiple states are expected to witness intense rainfall activity over the next 24 hours as active monsoon conditions continue to prevail.
For the Delhi-NCR region, the weather department has predicted generally cloudy skies with the possibility of heavy rainfall during the day. However, no weather alert has been issued for the national capital and its adjoining areas.
The IMD has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, Odisha, Kerala, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Gangetic West Bengal. Heavy rainfall is also likely in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu and adjoining regions.
The weather department said the monsoon trough currently extends from Sri Ganganagar to Mizoram, passing through Rohtak, Shahjahanpur, Sultanpur, Gaya and Bankura, creating favourable conditions for widespread rainfall across several parts of the country.
According to the IMD, active monsoon conditions, coupled with cyclonic circulations over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and the northeastern states, along with the influence of a western disturbance, are expected to further intensify rainfall activity over the next 24 hours.
A Yellow Alert has been issued for rainfall in 20 districts of western Uttar Pradesh, while scattered showers have also been forecast across the state on Friday.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand has been witnessing persistent heavy rainfall since Wednesday, leading to a rise in water levels in rivers and streams across several districts. The continued downpour has also heightened the risk of landslides in the state’s hilly regions.
The IMD has maintained its warning for Thursday and issued an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall in several districts, including Dehradun, urging authorities and residents to remain vigilant in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
