India’s services sector witnessed broad-based growth in June 2026, with 18 of the 19 sub-sectors covered under the Index of Services Production (ISP) registering year-on-year growth, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Monday.
Eight sub-sectors recorded double-digit growth in June compared with the same month last year, with real estate, retail trade and wholesale trade emerging as the top performers.
Real estate recorded the highest growth of 24.7%, followed by retail trade at 18% and wholesale trade at 15.1%. Administrative and support services grew 14.4%, while IT and computer-related services expanded 13.5%.
Warehousing and support activities for transportation recorded 11.8% growth, while banking grew 11.4% and accommodation and food services registered 10.2% growth.
Among other major services, road transport grew 9.7%, telecommunications 9.5%, insurance 9.6%, and professional, scientific and technical services, including research and development, 9.1%.
Water transport expanded 6.9%, while arts, entertainment and recreation services grew 6.1%. Postal and courier services recorded 5% growth, followed by information and broadcasting at 4.6% and railway transport at 3.3%.
Air transport was the only sub-sector to register a contraction, declining 6% in June 2026 from a year earlier.
MoSPI has released the Index of Services Production for 19 sub-sectors with 2024-25 as the base year. The monthly ISP series is being published on an experimental basis to assess data quality, test the resilience of the index and obtain feedback from stakeholders and users.
The ministry said the indices for railway transport, banking and insurance are based on provisional monthly data and will be subject to annual revisions.
