Union Minister Nadda begins three-day visit to flood-hit Northeast to review relief, health services

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers J.P. Nadda on Tuesday began a three-day visit to the flood-affected northeastern states of Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh to review health services, relief operations and rehabilitation efforts.

According to an official statement, Nadda’s visit, scheduled from August 4 to 6, will focus on assessing the impact of floods, flash floods and cloudbursts, as well as reviewing damage to infrastructure and the delivery of healthcare and relief services in the affected areas.

Nadda arrived in Dibrugarh, Assam, on Tuesday. On August 5, he is scheduled to visit flood-hit villages in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts, where he will inspect relief camps, assess damage to crops and houses, and interact with affected families.

Later in the day, the Union Minister will travel to Defence Colony and nearby areas in Mon district of Nagaland to review flood damage and ongoing relief operations. He will subsequently return to Dibrugarh to chair a high-level review meeting with senior Assam government officials on relief, rehabilitation and health-related measures.

On August 6, Nadda will visit Yazali in Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district to inspect areas affected by flash floods and cloudbursts. The visit will include an assessment of damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure, visits to relief camps, and interactions with affected residents.

The minister will conclude his tour with a review meeting with Arunachal Pradesh government officials to assess the health situation and the progress of relief and rehabilitation efforts.

The official statement said the visit underscores the Centre’s continued focus on the development and welfare of the northeastern region. It noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the Northeast as “Ashtalakshmi” and has consistently emphasised its importance in India’s development.
