A total of 166 Indian nationals have been rescued from flood-hit Nepal so far, including three on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The MEA also said 410 Indian nationals who had been visiting the Tibet Autonomous Region for pilgrimage or other activities left China on Wednesday.
India continued its rescue and relief efforts, with a fifth Indian Air Force flight carrying humanitarian assistance reaching Kathmandu on September 2.
The flight carried about 5.5 tonnes of medical supplies, including antibiotics, analgesics, surgical items and other essential medicines. It also carried an 11-member specialised team along with more than six tonnes of rescue equipment. With the latest tranche, India has delivered around 74 tonnes of relief assistance to Nepal so far, the MEA said.
The Indian tunnel rescue team moved its base to Syabrubesi from Trishuli on Wednesday, helping reduce the travel time to Chilime, where rescue operations are underway in coordination with the Nepali Army. Amid deep slush and blockages inside the tunnel, the team was able to move forward by about 100 metres.
To expedite the search and rescue operation, the possibility of creating an improvised road approach to the tunnel was explored so that more heavy equipment could be deployed.
The 11 rescue experts who arrived from India on Wednesday moved close to Trishuli Bazaar along with specialised equipment and are expected to commence their work from Thursday in coordination with the Nepali Army.
Meanwhile, an Indian forensics team is working in two laboratories in Kathmandu to examine and analyse DNA samples in collaboration with experts from Nepal.
