The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) has redressed 2,306 long-pending pension grievances, claims and issues under the third edition of its annual Special Campaign, recording a redressal rate of 72 per cent.
Special Campaign 3 was launched on July 7, 2026, to ensure the timely and qualitative resolution of long-pending pension-related grievances. The campaign, which comprised preparatory and execution phases, concluded on August 31.
During the preparatory phase, ministries, departments and their attached or subordinate offices were directed to identify long-pending grievances, claims and issues received through online and physical modes. A total of 1,062 target cases were identified, while another 2,131 cases pending on the CPENGRAMS portal for more than a month were taken up for resolution.
During the execution phase, the DoPPW coordinated with ministries and departments to expedite disposal of the cases. Two mid-campaign review meetings were held, while the status of pending cases was monitored regularly.
The coordinated efforts of 40 ministries and departments resulted in the resolution of 2,306 out of 3,193 cases taken up under the campaign. Follow-up action is underway to dispose of the remaining grievances.
The department said most of the resolved cases involved pensioners and family pensioners residing in rural areas. It said the increasing use of online grievance-redressal mechanisms operated by ministries and departments, along with the CPENGRAMS portal, was helping bridge the digital divide.
Among the major cases resolved during the campaign, Rs 16.70 lakh in family pension arrears was released to Jayalakshmi Karnan, the disabled dependent daughter of a defence pensioner, with effect from June 2013. Defence pensioner Idan Singh received Rs 30 lakh in disability pension arrears with effect from September 16, 2016.
Defence pensioner Kapur Singh received Rs 26.12 lakh towards war injury element arrears with effect from January 1, 2006, while Rs 19 lakh in dual family pension arrears was released to Rukmani Nair, spouse of a defence pensioner, with effect from September 24, 2012.
Saranjit Kaur, mother of an Army personnel, received Rs 18.57 lakh towards outstanding special family pension arrears, including interest, and Rs 12.60 lakh towards ex-gratia arrears, including interest, with effect from July 28, 2008.
Sunaina Kumari, widow daughter of a defence pensioner, received Rs 6.27 lakh in pending family pension arrears with effect from March 18, 2022. Simarto, spouse of a defence pensioner, was paid Rs 10.66 lakh towards liberalised family pension arrears with effect from January 1, 1996.
Angoori Devi, spouse of a defence pensioner, received Rs 37.40 lakh in family pension arrears towards the difference between ordinary and special family pension, with effect from January 1, 1996.
Defence pensioner Ranjit Singh received Rs 25.99 lakh towards time-barred service pension arrears for the period from October 2004 to December 2023, while Rs 30.15 lakh was paid to Koranga Lakshmi, spouse of a defence pensioner, towards family pension arrears for the period from June 2011 to February 2026.
The department said the campaign had helped resolve several long-pending pension-related cases through coordinated efforts across ministries and departments.
