Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal on Monday addressed the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
In his address, the Minister highlighted India’s efforts towards digital justice, stronger measures to combat cybercrime and terrorism, enhanced international cooperation and timely delivery of justice.
The Union Minister also briefed the participating delegates on reforms undertaken through India’s new criminal laws and the country’s commitment to strengthening the criminal justice system in accordance with global standards.
On the sidelines of the event, Meghwal also met UAE’s Minister of Justice Abdullah Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi. The two sides discussed ways to further strengthen legal cooperation between India and the UAE.
The UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice also called the ‘UN Crime Congress’ is the world’s largest and most diverse gathering of policy-makers, practitioners, academia, intergovernmental organizations and civil society in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. It is organised by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) – the UN agency mandated to assist Member States in combating illicit drugs, transnational organised crime, corruption and terrorism, while strengthening criminal justice and the rule of law.
The 15th Crime Congress is being held in Abu Dhabi 26 September to 1 October 2026 under the overall theme “Accelerating crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law: protecting people and planet and achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the digital age”.
