India’s Chetan Bhatt missed out on a bronze medal in the men’s 84kg kumite category after losing his medal bout to Chinese Taipei’s Meng-yu Chu at the Asian Games 2026 on Tuesday.
The bout ended level at 1-1, with Chu declared the winner on senshu, a tie-breaking rule that awards the victory to the athlete who scores first.
Chetan had earlier suffered an 8-0 defeat to Jordan’s Mohammad Al-Jafari in the men’s 84kg kumite semifinal. He struggled to make an impact in attack and subsequently moved into the bronze medal bout.
In swimming, Aryan Nehra finished fourth in the B final of the men’s 1,500m freestyle. The B final featured swimmers who did not qualify for the medal-deciding A final.
In soft tennis, Jay Meena defeated Pakistan’s Hussain Arain 4-0 in their men’s singles Group D encounter. Meena won the four sets 4-2, 4-0, 4-2, 4-0.
In the women’s singles, Aadhya Tiwari lost 1-4 to Thailand’s Alisha Ziegler, with the set scores reading 4-1, 0-4, 0-4, 2-4, 4-6.
With only the group winner advancing to the quarter-finals, Aadhya will need to beat Pakistan’s Kainaat Shallwani and hope Shallwani also defeats Ziegler to remain in contention for a place in the last eight.
In sepaktakraw, India’s men’s Regu team suffered a second consecutive Group B defeat, losing 0-2 to Malaysia. India went down 9-15, 12-15 and will play the Philippines in their final group match on Wednesday.
India had earlier lost 1-2 to Japan in their opening Group B encounter.
