Delhi Police has issued a public advisory as traffic movement across the national capital is likely to be affected due to VVIP movements during the 18th BRICS Summit being held at Bharat Mandapam.
Police have urged citizens to use public transport and follow designated alternative routes. Commuters travelling to airports, railway stations and Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs) have been advised to allow additional travel time.
Non-destined commercial vehicles have also been barred from entering the city.
The public has been strongly advised to use the Metro for airport travel as services remain fully operational without disruptions.
Bus routes may be diverted during VVIP movements, while taxis and auto-rickshaws have been advised against roadside parking except at designated locations. Diversions may also be implemented for these vehicles.
Emergency and medical vehicles will be provided obstruction-free passage across Delhi round the clock. Essential services and utility operations will continue uninterrupted in all zones.
Citizens have also been urged to immediately inform the nearest police officer about any unidentified object or suspicious activity.
Roads likely to be affected include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Moti Lal Nehru Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Satya Marg, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kemal Ataturk Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Joseph Broz Tito Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.
Roadside parking within 200 metres of controlled roads has been strictly prohibited. Vehicles are required to be parked only in authorised areas.
Delhi Police has asked commuters to follow the instructions of traffic personnel and observe traffic rules patiently during the VVIP movements.
India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. India’s chairship is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, with development, sustainability and innovation among the key areas of focus.
The summit brings together leaders and high-level representatives from the 11 full BRICS member nations, partner countries and international organisations.
As part of the security arrangements, Delhi Police has deployed more than 15,000 personnel and strengthened surveillance across the capital. Interstate coordination measures are also underway to ensure effective management of traffic and movement during the summit. (ANI)
