South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Uganda Vice President Jessica Alupo arrived in New Delhi on Friday ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, scheduled to be held in the national capital on September 12-13.
Both leaders were received by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary upon their arrival.
South Africa is a full member of BRICS, while Uganda is among the grouping’s partner countries.
Their arrival comes as New Delhi gears up to host the two-day summit, with several leaders and senior representatives from BRICS member and partner countries reaching the national capital.
Earlier, Uruguay Foreign Affairs Minister Mario Lubetkin arrived in New Delhi to attend the summit.
Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa P Lazaro have also arrived in the national capital ahead of the summit.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has also reached New Delhi. He was received by Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh at the airport.
Other senior Russian representatives, including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, also arrived in New Delhi earlier on Friday.
Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank President Zou Jiayi has also arrived to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit.
India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13 under its 2026 BRICS chairship. India’s chairship is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, with development, sustainability and innovation forming key areas of focus.
The summit is expected to bring together leaders and senior representatives from BRICS member and partner countries, along with outreach invitees, for discussions on strengthening cooperation within the grouping and addressing key global and regional issues. (ANI)
