Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said he was confident that the upcoming BRICS Summit in New Delhi would witness positive and meaningful discussions on various global issues, with the aspirations of global welfare at its core.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister shared a Sanskrit verse while highlighting the significance of the two-day summit, which will bring together leaders from BRICS member and partner countries.
“In the coming days, leaders from around the world will gather for the BRICS Summit. There is full confidence that the summit will feature positive and meaningful discussions on various issues, with aspirations for global welfare,” PM Modi said.
The 18th BRICS Summit, being hosted by India under its 2026 chairship, will begin in New Delhi on Saturday.
Ahead of the summit, PM Modi is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday. The discussions are expected to cover key areas of the India-Russia strategic partnership, including trade, energy security and other regional and global developments.
Putin is scheduled to address the plenary session of the BRICS Business Forum on Friday, a key platform that traditionally precedes the leaders’ summit and brings together business representatives from BRICS countries.
On Saturday, PM Modi will participate in the main BRICS Summit, where leaders are expected to exchange views on strengthening cooperation within the grouping and discuss major global and regional issues.
BRICS has emerged as an important platform for coordination among major emerging economies, providing member countries with a forum to exchange views on economic and development priorities and formulate common positions on issues of global governance.
The grouping’s agenda extends across several areas, including development, finance, technology, trade and people-to-people exchanges. It has also emerged as an important channel for advancing the interests and aspirations of the Global South in multilateral institutions.
Through sustained dialogue and cooperation, BRICS members have sought to share experiences, address common challenges and strengthen their collective voice on issues affecting emerging and developing economies.
India is holding its fourth BRICS chairship in 2026, with its presidency guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
The theme reflects India’s focus on strengthening the existing achievements and institutional effectiveness of BRICS, while placing development, sustainability and innovation at the centre of the grouping’s agenda.
India’s chairship also seeks to highlight the aspirations and priorities of the Global South and reinforce BRICS as a constructive and solutions-oriented platform for international cooperation.
With the summit set to bring together leaders from across the expanded BRICS grouping, India is expected to push for greater cooperation on shared global priorities while emphasising sustainable development, innovation, resilience and stronger representation for developing economies. (ANI)
