C. R. Paatil reviews water resources projects, calls for faster implementation

Union Minister for Jal Shakti C. R. Paatil on Thursday reviewed the progress of projects, programmes and schemes being implemented by the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, directing officials to remove bottlenecks and ensure their timely completion.

The review meeting assessed the overall progress of initiatives being undertaken by the Department and its various wings and organisations. The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Central Water Commission (CWC), Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) and State Projects (SPR) made detailed presentations on their ongoing activities.

Focus on bottlenecks and timely completion

Discussions covered the status of ongoing projects, implementation challenges, quality of work and measures needed to improve the pace and effectiveness of execution.

Paatil directed officials to identify bottlenecks affecting project implementation and resolve them expeditiously. He stressed that timely completion would help prevent cost escalation and ensure that the intended benefits of projects reach the public without delay.

DPR guidelines to be streamlined

The Minister called for streamlining existing guidelines followed by the Department and its wings and organisations for preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).

He said DPR preparation should be made more effective and aligned with the requirements of implementation on the ground. Paatil also emphasised greater use of the latest technologies in areas such as hydrological modernisation, DPR preparation, flood forecasting and groundwater management.

Centre-State coordination stressed

Paatil highlighted the need for stronger coordination between the Centre and States to resolve pending issues and facilitate smoother implementation of water-related projects.

He directed senior officers and heads of the Department’s concerned wings and organisations to ensure effective follow-up on decisions taken during the review meeting and maintain close monitoring of implementation.

The Minister stressed that all ongoing initiatives should remain focused on achieving their intended outcomes within the stipulated timelines.
