A central team led by Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will visit Bihar to assess the flood situation, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said.
Choudhary, however, did not specify when the team will arrive in the state.
He said the state government was making sustained efforts for a permanent solution to Bihar’s flood problem.
The CM also stressed the need for river conservation, better water management and long-term flood-control measures.
Around 49.67 lakh people across 15 districts – Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Purnea, Madhepura and Araria – have been affected by the floods this year.
The state has recorded 112.7 mm of rainfall so far in September, around six per cent above normal, officials said.
Speaking at a ‘Hindi Diwas’ and poetry conference in Patna on Monday, Choudhary also announced a two-day Hindi literary conclave, with leading writers, poets and scholars from across the country expected to participate.
Choudhary also hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for presenting India’s views in Hindi at the recent BRICS Summit.
