The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Monday signed a ₹586 crore contract with Accurate Industrial Controls Private Limited for the procurement of Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for T-72 and T-90 tanks of the Indian Army.
The contract was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
APUs serve as an alternate source for generating electric power for critical tank systems, including the fire control system, firing circuit, gun stabilisation system and other ancillary equipment.
The MoD said that the induction of indigenously developed APUs will strengthen the operational readiness, reliability and sustainability of the Indian Army’s mechanised formations.
Boost to Indigenous Defence Manufacturing
The procurement marks a significant step towards the indigenisation of critical sub-systems used in armoured platforms. It also demonstrates industry-led research and development under the Make-II category.
The Ministry said the contract highlights the effectiveness of the Make-II mechanism in translating indigenous innovation into actual production and induction into the armed forces. Make II projects are essentially Industry funded projects involving design, development and innovative solutions by Indian vendors for development of prototypes.
The procurement is aligned with the Government’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and is expected to contribute to the broader objective of Aatmanirbharta in Defence.
The contract also marks a milestone towards building a resilient, self-reliant and globally competitive Indian defence industry, while increasing the role of domestic industry in developing and manufacturing critical defence technologies.
