Tamil Nadu is likely to experience varied weather conditions over the coming days, with moderate rainfall forecast in districts along the Western Ghats, rising temperatures in interior areas and strong winds over the southern coastal waters.
In its latest weather bulletin, the Regional Meteorological Centre said moderate rain was likely in the Western Ghats districts for five days from late Monday. Other parts of the state may also receive isolated showers, depending on local weather conditions.
Meanwhile, temperatures in interior Tamil Nadu are expected to rise, with maximum temperatures in some places likely to remain up to four degrees Celsius above normal over the next four days. The combination of heat and humidity may cause discomfort, particularly during the afternoon.
Chennai is likely to witness partly cloudy skies, with light rain possible in parts of the city and its suburbs during the evening or night. However, the forecast does not indicate widespread or sustained rainfall in the capital.
The weather office has also issued a warning for fishermen operating off the southern Tamil Nadu coast. Squally winds with speeds of up to 55 kmph are likely over the Gulf of Mannar, adjoining southern coastal areas and the Comorin Sea.
Fishermen have been advised against venturing into these waters until conditions improve. Following the warning, Fisheries Department officials said permits would not be issued to mechanised boat fishermen in Rameswaram to venture into the sea.
The restriction will remain in force until further notice as a precaution against rough sea conditions and potentially dangerous winds. The suspension is expected to keep fishing boats anchored along the Rameswaram coast and may temporarily affect fishing operations and the income of crews dependent on deep-sea fishing.
Officials are expected to review the situation based on subsequent weather bulletins. Residents in coastal areas have also been advised to remain alert to sudden changes in wind conditions.
Authorities urged fishermen and boat operators to follow official weather advisories and avoid taking risks based on brief periods of calm conditions.
The weather department will continue to monitor rainfall, temperature and wind patterns and issue further updates if there is any significant change.
