India on Sunday condemned the attack on the commercial vessel MT El Gaia off the coast of Oman, saying 13 of the 14 Indian crew members onboard have been rescued while search and rescue operations are continuing for the missing Indian national.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the Indian Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating proactively with Omani authorities in the ongoing search and rescue operation.
India also thanked the Omani authorities for their support in rescuing the Indian nationals.
India calls for de-escalation and safe navigation
The MEA reiterated India’s call for the immediate de-escalation of tensions in the region and urged all sides to pursue dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace.
“The targeting of commercial shipping, seafarers, civilians, and civilian infrastructure in the region is unacceptable,” the ministry said.
India also called for the restoration of free and safe navigation and the unhindered flow of commerce through international waterways in the region at the earliest.
The MEA said India remains closely engaged with the Omani authorities as efforts continue to locate and rescue the missing Indian crew member.
