India, Germany discuss energy security, low-carbon development and carbon markets

Union Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal held a bilateral meeting with German Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Climate Protection and Nuclear Safety Carsten Schneider in New Delhi on Wednesday to review and strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector.

The discussions covered a range of areas, including energy security, electrification, low-carbon development, carbon markets and diversification of supply chains.

The two ministers exchanged views on ongoing initiatives and explored avenues to deepen bilateral cooperation, building on the momentum in India-Germany relations, which recently marked 75 years of diplomatic ties and 25 years of the Strategic Partnership.

Manohar Lal and Schneider agreed that energy security, low-carbon development and carbon markets are closely interconnected, and that cooperation between India and Germany in these areas could be mutually reinforcing.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a secure, affordable and sustainable energy future and agreed to continue their engagement in the coming months.

The meeting further reinforced the growing momentum in India-Germany energy cooperation, with both countries seeking to build on their longstanding partnership and shared commitment to sustainable development and energy security.
