India has reiterated its commitment to protecting the ozone layer and advancing climate action at the 32nd World Ozone Day celebrations held in Mumbai.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and brought together government officials and stakeholders to highlight the importance of sustained global efforts to protect the ozone layer.
India’s commitment comes as the country continues to implement measures under the Montreal Protocol and promote environmentally sustainable practices. The government has also been working towards reducing the use of ozone-depleting substances and transitioning towards climate-friendly alternatives.
The celebrations also highlighted the linkages between ozone-layer protection and broader climate action. The Montreal Protocol, through its phased reduction of ozone-depleting substances, has contributed significantly to the recovery of the ozone layer while also delivering climate benefits.
The Ministry said India remains committed to strengthening international cooperation and fulfilling its obligations under global environmental agreements.
The 32nd World Ozone Day was observed with the theme of continued action for protecting the ozone layer and addressing climate-related challenges.
The government has also launched initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s climate policy framework and improving public access to information on climate action. These efforts are intended to support India’s long-term environmental and sustainable development goals.
