The Ministry of Steel has showcased India’s growing steel capabilities and opportunities for international cooperation through the India Steel Pavilion at INNOPROM India 2026, the flagship Russian industrial exhibition being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from September 9 to 11.
The pavilion, themed “Forging Together – For Infinite Progress,” highlights the growth and achievements of India’s steel industry and its ambitions to emerge as a global steel powerhouse. It also focuses on opportunities to deepen India-Russia cooperation across areas including coking coal, nickel, speciality steel, research and development and advanced steel technologies.
Key public sector enterprises under the Ministry, including SAIL, NMDC, MOIL and MECON, are participating in the pavilion. The companies are showcasing their technological capabilities, achievements and ongoing and potential areas of collaboration with Russian companies across the steel and mining value chain.
India-Russia steel cooperation in focus
A dedicated session on “India-Russia Collaboration on Steel Value Chain” was also organised at Bharat Mandapam on the sidelines of the exhibition under the India-Russia Business Dialogue. The session was supported by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The session was co-chaired by Steel Ministry Secretary Sandeep Poundrik and Mikhail Yurin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
Senior officials and representatives from leading Russian steel, mining and metallurgical companies participated in the discussions, along with Ministry officials and senior executives of SAIL, NMDC, MOIL and MECON. Representatives from Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and other industry stakeholders were also present.
The discussions underlined the importance of the steel industry as a key pillar of industrial development, infrastructure expansion and manufacturing competitiveness. India and Russia were described as having complementary strengths across the steel value chain, ranging from raw material security and metallurgical technologies to steel production and downstream applications.
Focus on technology, investment and resilient supply chains
The India-Russia discussions explored ways to expand cooperation through investment, technology exchange, sustainable steel production and stronger supply chains.
Greater collaboration between the two countries could support industrial modernisation, encourage innovation in advanced steel products and strengthen supply-chain resilience, while creating new opportunities for businesses and investors in both markets.
The Ministry said the India Steel Pavilion provides a platform to highlight India’s capabilities and identify new avenues for collaboration with Russian industry. The exhibition is also expected to help strengthen long-term economic and strategic ties between India and Russia through greater engagement across the steel and mining sectors.
With the participation of major Indian steel and mining public sector enterprises, INNOPROM India 2026 provides an important platform for showcasing India’s industrial capabilities while exploring partnerships in critical raw materials, advanced technologies and next-generation steel production.
