Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh held a meeting with Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of National Defence, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, in New Delhi on Sunday on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit.
The meeting followed the recent high-level bilateral engagement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Vietnamese counterpart on the sidelines of the summit and focused on strengthening the longstanding friendship between India and Vietnam, advancing regional security and deepening the bilateral Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The discussions centred on accelerating joint initiatives, technology sharing and defence industrial cooperation between the two countries. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding maritime and defence ties to contribute to a peaceful, stable and rules-based regional security architecture.
India and Vietnam also emphasised the importance of close coordination in multilateral forums to address evolving and complex security challenges. The two sides particularly highlighted the significance of active engagement through the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus) framework.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening practical defence cooperation through ASEAN-led mechanisms. They noted that collaborative platforms, including the ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Groups, play an important role in promoting regional stability and developing collective security architectures in the Indo-Pacific.
The two sides also agreed to hold the next Defence Policy Dialogue in India on the sidelines of Aero India 2027.
The meeting reflected the growing momentum in India-Vietnam defence cooperation and builds on the strategic direction provided by the two Prime Ministers during their meeting at the BRICS Summit.
