Indian Army to transition 41 stations to PNG in FY 2026–27, unveils guide for safe and structured adoption

The Indian Army organised the PNG Transition Webinar-2026 at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt, to accelerate the transition to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) across feasible Army establishments, in line with the Government of India’s vision of a gas-based economy.

The webinar brought together key stakeholders from the Indian Army, government agencies, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), Defence Estates Organisation, Military Engineer Services and City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities to deliberate on the roadmap for transitioning Army establishments to PNG.

As part of the initiative, the Indian Army plans to convert 41 Army Stations to PNG during FY 2026–27, followed by its expansion to other feasible establishments, stated a press release from the Ministry of Defence.

During the event, the Indian Army PNG Guide was also released. The guide serves as a common reference document covering administrative, technical, safety, and implementation requirements to facilitate a structured and standardised transition to PNG.

The webinar addressed key aspects of the transition, including policy and regulatory requirements, statutory clearances, land and works-related issues, technical considerations, safety protocols, accounting and reimbursement mechanisms.
Sessions also focused on the preparedness of CGD entities, station-level implementation experiences, and safety requirements to ensure smooth adoption of PNG across Army establishments.

The webinar concluded with the Indian Army reaffirming its commitment to achieving a safe, efficient and sustainable transition to PNG across feasible establishments.
