External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday held separate meetings with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot and Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Roberto Kury in New York ahead of major United Nations deliberations.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said his regular meetings and teleconferences with Barrot help maintain the momentum of the India-France Special Global Strategic Partnership.
The two ministers discussed regional and global developments, including the Ukraine and Gulf crises, besides exchanging views on multilateral issues, including reform of the UN Security Council, Jaishankar said.
Following his meeting with the French Foreign Minister, Jaishankar met Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Roberto Kury.
The External Affairs Minister said discussions with Kury focused on strengthening bilateral economic ties, including cooperation in energy and pharmaceuticals, as well as mobility, personnel training, development partnership and cooperation in multilateral forums, including the United Nations.
India and Ecuador have expanded cooperation in areas including capacity building and pharmaceuticals. According to the details shared in the ANI report, 223 Ecuadorian professionals received specialised training over the past five years, while 813 people were trained through an India-funded Centre of Excellence in Information Technology at an Ecuadorian university.
Jaishankar is in New York for India’s engagements around the United Nations deliberations. India has continued to call for reform of the UN Security Council as part of its broader position on strengthening multilateral institutions.
