PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Ukhrul-1, Manipur, representing the Shillong Region, emerged as the national winner of the 27th National Youth Parliament Competition, 2025-26 for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.
The prize distribution ceremony was held at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament Library Building, Parliament House Complex, New Delhi, on Thursday. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju distributed shields, trophies and prizes to the winning teams.
Students showcase parliamentary skills
Rijiju congratulated the national winner and seven regional winners, and highlighted the importance of Parliament as a symbol of democracy. He said parliamentary democracy is well suited to India, where citizens govern themselves through elected representatives.
He also appreciated the role of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in shaping students’ character and nurturing leadership qualities.
Students of JNV Ukhrul-1 presented a repeat performance of their Youth Parliament at the ceremony.
Competition promotes critical thinking and leadership
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has been organising Youth Parliament competitions for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas for the past 30 years. The 27th edition was conducted during 2025-26 among 100 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across eight Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti regions.
The Youth Parliament programme provides students an opportunity to develop eloquence, critical thinking, teamwork and leadership skills. It also familiarises them with parliamentary practices and procedures, techniques of debate and discussion, and effective oratory.
The programme encourages students to deliberate on matters of national and global significance while building confidence and leadership capabilities.
Seven regional winners felicitated
The Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Running Parliamentary Shield and trophy for securing first position at the national level were presented to JNV Ukhrul-1, Manipur.
The seven regional winners that received trophies and prizes were JNV Kollam, Kerala (Hyderabad Region); JNV Theog, Shimla (Chandigarh Region); JNV Suratgarh, Sriganganagar (Jaipur Region); JNV Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh (Bhopal Region); JNV Valsad, Gujarat (Pune Region); JNV Purulia, West Bengal (Patna Region); and JNV Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand (Lucknow Region).
Focus on developing young citizens
Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Nikunja Bihari Dhal, congratulated the winning teams and said programmes such as Youth Parliament provide students with opportunities to develop their personality, critical thinking and teamwork.
Additional Secretary Dr Satya Prakash highlighted the role of principals, teachers and students, drawing on the traditional Guru-Shishya relationship, in contributing to the vision of a developed India by 2047.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Anil Kumar.
