Kudumbashree, Keralam’s women-led poverty eradication mission, has recorded a turnover of Rs 44.89 crore through its state-wide Onam marketing initiatives held from August 20 to 25, officials said.
The turnover was Rs 4.45 crore higher than the Rs 40.44 crore recorded last year.
Of the total, Rs 27.01 crore came from Onam marketing fairs, Rs 2.64 crore from Onam feasts, Rs 5.17 crore from sales of Onam kit comprising articles, including rice and essential provision, and Rs 10.07 crore from the sale of flowers and vegetables, they said in a statement.
A state-level Onam marketing fair was held in Alappuzha along with 12 district-level fairs and 1,952 Community Development Society (CDS)-level fairs, it said.
A total of 43,613 micro-enterprise units and 27,509 farmer groups participated in the fairs, generating a turnover of Rs 27.01 crore.
Onam feast services organised at the state level generated Rs 2.64 crore in revenue for 415 units, it said.
Onam kit sales were organised through 929 CDSs, providing an opportunity for 9,169 micro-enterprise units to earn income. A total of 1,09,423 kits were sold, generating Rs 5.17 crore, according to the statement.
Kudumbashree’s women farmers earned Rs 10.07 crore through the sale of flowers and vegetables under the ‘Onakkani’ and ‘Nirappolima’ initiatives, compared with Rs 7.30 crore last year.
The farmers earned Rs 2.78 crore more this year, it said.
Kudumbashree also stepped up product sales through its Pocketmart e-commerce application during the Onam season.
The Onam marketing fairs provided consumers with quality products while creating better marketing opportunities for Kudumbashree entrepreneurs and farmers, the officials added.
Keralam celebrated the auspicious Thiruvonam on August 26.
