Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday announced the setting up of a 10-member task force to assess the challenges and feasibility of reviving Formula 1 in India.
The task force will be headed by NITI Aayog Programme Director and Adviser Yugal Kishore Joshi and will include Sports Ministry Joint Secretary Kunal, and Arindam Ghosh, president of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).
It will also have representatives from the Departments of Tourism and Commerce, as well as the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
“The terms of reference of this committee are to suggest comprehensive ways for the sustainable growth of motorsports in India and prepare a holistic, coordinated roadmap for the revival of Formula One so that we can host a race in 2028,” Mandaviya said.
“It will also carry out a detailed assessment of the challenges that may come in the way of reviving motorsports and identify the policy interventions that would be required for this,” he added.
India last hosted a Formula One race in 2013 at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.
