Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Shobha Karandlaje on Thursday inaugurated a new Technology Centre (TC) at Devanahalli in Bengaluru, Karnataka, aimed at strengthening technological capabilities, industry-ready skills and competitiveness of MSMEs, particularly in the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector.
Developed by the Ministry of MSME over 10 acres with an investment of ₹156 crore, the centre is equipped with advanced machines and laboratories and is expected to train around 10,000 trainees annually.
Focus on ESDM and aerospace sectors
The inauguration ceremony featured an exhibition highlighting the contribution of Indian MSMEs to the aerospace and ESDM sectors. The new centre will provide MSMEs with access to advanced technologies and support in design, prototyping, testing, production and consultancy.
The facility includes technologies such as Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) lines), additive manufacturing, CNC 5-axis and 3-axis machines and Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM).
The centre is expected to strengthen the MSME ecosystem in electronics and aerospace by helping businesses adopt advanced technologies while developing a skilled workforce.
Centre to train 10,000 youth annually
Karandlaje said the Technology Centre would serve as a hub for training, manufacturing and nurturing young talent. She encouraged students and young innovators to pursue entrepreneurship and startups and contribute to the country’s growth.
She said the Ministry’s Technology Centre network is playing an important role in developing industry-oriented skills and supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.
The Minister also announced that another Technology Centre would be established in Belagavi, Karnataka, at a cost of ₹178 crore.
Over 9.4 crore registered MSMEs
MSME Secretary Bharat Khera highlighted recent amendments to the MSMED Act, 2026, aimed at further benefiting the sector, and described the Bengaluru centre as an important initiative for building industry-ready skills.
Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, Dr Rajneesh said there are more than 9.4 crore registered MSMEs contributing around 31% to the Indian economy and generating employment for over 41.6 crore people.
He highlighted initiatives including TReDS and the Credit Guarantee Scheme aimed at improving access to finance and technology for MSMEs.
Technology support for MSMEs
The Ministry operates a nationwide network of Technology Centres that provide technological, production and advisory support, along with industry-oriented training.
The Bengaluru centre has been developed on land provided by the Karnataka government and will offer advanced design, prototyping, production, training and consultancy services.
The facility is expected to generate employment, nurture skilled talent and promote sustainable livelihoods in Karnataka while providing technology support to MSMEs across the country.
