The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) has reached more than 34.54 crore citizens across the country, including over 13.70 crore youth and 10.64 crore women, as the Centre steps up efforts to combat substance abuse through awareness, community participation and expanded treatment facilities.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said more than 31.40 lakh awareness and outreach activities have been conducted nationwide under the campaign, while over 1.67 lakh Nasha Mukti Mitras have joined efforts to strengthen community participation in the fight against drug abuse.
The campaign is marking its sixth year with a focus on expanding prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and public participation under the government’s broader vision of a “Naya Bharat, Nasha Mukt Bharat.”
Over 1.67 lakh personnel trained
Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Sudhansh Pant said more than 1.67 lakh master volunteers, community leaders and personnel have been trained in identifying addiction and supporting individuals requiring care.
The training is aimed at strengthening community-level capacity to identify substance dependency and connect affected individuals with appropriate counselling, treatment and rehabilitation services.
Under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), the Ministry provides financial assistance to State Governments, Union Territories, NGOs and government hospitals for preventive education, awareness generation, counselling, treatment and rehabilitation.
More than 755 de-addiction facilities added
To expand access to treatment, more than 755 new de-addiction facilities have been established over the last two years.
These include District De-addiction Centres, Addiction Treatment Facilities and de-addiction centres in jails.
The government has also launched the NMBA 2.0 mobile application, which enables citizens to locate the nearest de-addiction centre and access information on available treatment services.
Over 34 lakh pledges taken
The campaign has also recorded more than 34 lakh Nasha Mukti Pledges, including e-pledges, across the country.
The pledge seeks to encourage citizens to stay away from drugs, promote collective responsibility and encourage stakeholders, particularly young people, to contribute towards building a drug-free society.
The Ministry has announced plans to mobilise more than 10 crore citizens through physical and online participation for a National Mass Pledge Against Drug Abuse.
The mass pledge is scheduled to be held by the end of September to mark the sixth anniversary of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
The Ministry said the initiative is expected to further sensitise citizens about the dangers of substance abuse and strengthen collective participation in efforts to create a drug-free society.
