More than 600 Internet experts, policymakers, network operators and technology leaders have gathered in Mumbai for the 62nd APNIC Conference (APNIC 62), being held from September 4 to 10.
The conference includes technical workshops, conference sessions, policy meetings and community events focused on strengthening Internet infrastructure and security across the Asia Pacific region.
Hosted by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) and the Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI), with support from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Maharashtra government, the conference is being organised by the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), the region’s not-for-profit Internet number registry.
The conference brings together technical experts, network operators, policymakers and other Internet community leaders to discuss challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the Internet, including AI-powered services, network automation, cybersecurity, routing security and Internet governance.
“As India’s digital ecosystem continues to expand, ensuring secure, resilient and future-ready Internet infrastructure remains a key priority. APNIC 62 provides an important platform for India to engage with the Asia Pacific technical community, exchanging knowledge and strengthening collaboration towards an open, inclusive and trusted Internet for all,” said Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary, MeitY.
Among those attending the conference are MeitY Secretary S Krishnan and Maharashtra Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal.
“APNIC 62 brings the region’s Internet community together to turn shared expertise into practical action for a more secure, resilient and scalable Internet,” APNIC Director General Jia Rong Low said.
He said artificial intelligence and other major technological and societal changes were placing unprecedented demands on networks supporting economies and societies.
Low also highlighted India’s progress in IPv6 adoption, saying it demonstrated what could be achieved through technical capability, investment and collaboration.

APNIC 62 is an opportunity to share India’s experience, learn from regional experts and strengthen the cooperation needed for a secure, resilient and inclusive Internet,” said NIXI CEO Devesh Tyagi.
ISPAI President Rajesh Chharia said Internet service providers were at the forefront of meeting the growing demand for reliable, secure and high-performance connectivity.
On September 8, NIXI and APNIC will sign a memorandum of understanding on enhancing the deployment of key Internet infrastructure technologies, including IPv6 and routing security. The agreement is expected to contribute to the security, resilience and long-term development of India’s Internet infrastructure.
APNIC, headquartered in the Asia Pacific region, manages critical Internet number resources, including IP addresses and network identifiers, across 56 economies.
Its role is technical rather than regulatory or political, helping networks across borders operate as a single, interoperable system.
